According t o the spin temperature theory, a narrow electron spin resonance (ESR) line enables the creation of high inverse spin temperatures - and thus of high nuclear polarizations. In the following, the spin temperature theory, which gives the connection between ESR linewidth and polarization behaviour, as well as the dominant line broadening mechanisms, will be introduced briefly. While the detailed ESR measurements of various target materials in X-band and V-band are presented in Refs. 3 and 4 respectively, the results in connection with the spin temperature theory are discussed a t the end of the article.
