For shorter or longer periods of time instability may occur in the larynx causing irregular vibration of the vocal folds, which is referred to as irregular phonation, creaky voice, glottalization, vocal fry and laryngealization [4,5]. It leads to abrupt changes in the fundamental frequency (F0), amplitude of the pitch periods or both. Irregular phonation is a frequent phenomenon in both healthy speakers and people having voice disorders. It is often accompanied by extremely low pitch and the quick attenuation of glottal pulses.

4 Experiments A series of experiments were run using variations of the corpus and different sets of features in order to find the best configuration for the supertagger. In all the experiments we train a conditional random fields (CRF) [15] model using the CRF++ tool [16]. The whole Ancora corpus contains 517,000 tokens in 17,000 sentences and there are 61,000 instances of verbs. We consider only the verb classes that appear at least 30 22 L. Chiruzzo and D. Wonsever Fig. 2. Lexical frame for the tag times in the corpus, the rest of the verbs are marked with a generic tag “v”; this reduces the tagset from 453 to 92 possible values.

We denote this as ‘F0std’. 25 ms frame size and 5 ms frame shift are used. 42 and γ = −1/3. The results are the F0std and the MGC parameter streams. As PCA-based residual has been shown to produce better speech quality than pulse-noise excitation [16], we perform residual analysis in the baseline system. The residual signal (excitation) is obtained by MGLSA inverse filtering [19]. The SEDREAMS Glottal Closure Instant (GCI) detection algorithm [15] is used to find the glottal period boundaries in the voiced parts of the residual signal.
